Costa Rica - A paradise of unbelievable bio-diversity
The Global Classroom has had close ties with Costa Rica for many years and is constantly involved in some kind of project or activity there. Thanks to the hard work of many dedicated volunteers, we presently own a 546-acre piece of land, called the Aula Global Biological Reserve, meaning "Global Classroom" in Spanish. The reserve is a common location for GCR trips and one of our favorite places in the world.
An eco-friendly lodge/research station and composting toilet have been constructed and are open for use by groups wishing to spend some time in this remote cloud forest habitat. The Reserve is a hidden gem in the cloud forest, and home to such rare creatures as the resplendent quetzal, three-wattled bell bird, jaguar, ocelot, and many more. Through the links below, you will find more specific information relating to different aspects of our work in Costa Rica. Check out our links page for more general information about Costa Rica and the rain forest. Enjoy your exploration of the jungle!

Educational Service Trips offered in Costa Rica
The Global Classroom sponsors a variety of programs in Costa Rica, each of which is a unique and exciting experience, giving participants a taste of Costa Rican culture as well as of untouched nature in the pristine rain forest. This link will take you to Raven Adventures, the travel company that administers all Global Classroom trips.

All about the Costa Rica Rain Forest Conservation Project
The Global Classroom has been working for over a decade to protect some of the last remaining rain forest land in Costa Rica. Our first big success was the purchase of 100 acres - the Aula Global Reserve - in 2000. We are now working to extend our Reserve significantly, in order to save a critical biological corridor.

Plan your own trip to the Aula Global Reserve
The Aula Global Reserve and Research Station/Lodge is now open to visitors of all realms- bird watchers, college students, clubs, you name it. Aula Global is an awesome get-away, off the beaten track and unique in that it is unlike other tourist attractions in Costa Rica. All you have to do is contact The Global Classroom, and the Reserve can be yours for a few days or weeks.

Information on the Aula Global Research Station and Lodge
This is the only building that has been constructed on the Aula Global property and is 100% eco-friendly. It is probably one of the most incredible places in the world to spend the night, as visitors wake up to an orchestra of birds and insects and a beautiful view of old-growth rain forest canopy. It was built by volunteers in 2001.

Rain Forest Facts
From what can be found in the rain forest to the rate at which rain forests are being destroyed, we have compiled several facts just for you to explore!
Jungle Journal
Hundreds of students and several other participants affiliated with The Global Classroom have visited Costa Rica and nearly all have left changed, impacted by the beauty and life they found there. Here is your chance to hear just what they have to say, through the Global Classroom Journal.

Our Friends in Costa Rica
Through the years, we have met a number of wonderful people in Costa Rica who have supported us, encouraged us, educated us, and joined us as we explore their incredible country. They have strong voices and wish to share their experiences with The Global Classroom and their passion for the rain forest.
