Colin's
most recent story: So Long for a Tree to Grow, So Little Time
to Fall
...The
dozer was now crawling along a knife edge ridge so thin it seemed
to
balance
precariously
on
the
edge
of
the world.
The
log dug in deep and yanked the bulldozer sideways. Huge clumps
of soil tumbled down the hill. When the driver was
far enough away from the edge, he hauled in the 1 inch diameter
steel cable, and the tree followed in fits and lurches. My heart
ached. I always feared this would happen close to our reserve.
But not this close. The mountains just seemed too steep and impossible
to get at to cut
and haul such massive trees. Obviously this was not the case...

Julie's
story
...we were surrounded by the sounds of the rain forest. Blue morphos and other
brightly colored butterflies danced on the sides of the the trail as Israel and
I passed. He asked me a little about myself and told me a little about the reserve.
At each gate we came to he told me kindly "Diga al ultimo que cerrar el
portón," and I would yell back in English to Sara on the tail of
the group to make sure the gate got closed so that the cows didn't escape... |
Charity's story
It’s just me and the rainforest; this thick entanglement of plants and
life that hides within, the rich earthy scent of damp soil, the chatter of birds
nearby and the call of the Quetzal in the distance. Everywhere I look is a miracle,
a million shades of green in every shape and texture, bright flowers playing
peek-a-boo, showing their faces when I least expect it... |

Matt's Story
...I expected the sandy beaches, I expected the heat, I expected the beauty,
but what I didn’t expect was that this was the most amazing learning
experience I could have walked into. From the moment we set foot on Mexican
soil we all knew this wasn’t going to be your ordinary tourist-oriented
trip... |
Aubree's
Story
...The whale circled once more coming up only a few more feet away than
it had been before, except for this time he came up on his underside. The
whales huge pink belly area and ventral pleats rippled like a disturbed
pond, but much more forcefully. The water seeped out of his mouth like
a vengeful river. This was a once in a lifetime experience and I know just
how lucky I am... |
